Welcome to this Room 11 blog. Our learning philosophy is to LEARN, CREATE an artifact that shows our learning, and then SHARE it in creative ways, including posting it here on this blog. The purpose of this blog is for students to become accustomed to sharing their learning, recieving feedback, and preparing them for having their very own blog. While students will make every effort to have work corrected and error free it is in fact authentic student work, showing where students are at, and so there are likely to be some mistakes. The aim is to note progress and improvement, and we expect to see this over time.

Fun Orienteering at Waikanae Park    By Hannah    27,6,13
On a sunny but a bit chilly Tuesday morning on the 25th of June 134 year 5 and 6’s from waikanae school went orienteering for a hour at Waikanae Park.

They arrived by bus and were told what to do, they got into pairs and they got their starting times and off they went.

All 134 kids went round the park with a map in each hand stopping at  the clippers to clip their sheet. They went up steep hills and muddy ditches to find the clippers. The clippers had different patterns on them so people could tell if someone was cheating. “ I think the day was fun and exciting” said Madeline Young, a year 5 from waikanae school.

The teachers at waikanae school thought that going orienteering would be fun and exciting for the kids as well as learning how to work with others.

  1. Dear Hannah,
This is a successful report - you have written it as an observer rather than a participant. Your next step is to use capitals for proper nouns - proper nouns are peoples names and the actual name of a place.... so Waikanae Park has capitals as it is the actual name of the park.
The photos add to the story. Another idea is that you could add a caption for the photos to give additional information. For instance you could write something like - Lelani Fearon and Eden Davis, Year 5's from Waikanae School click their maps at a checkpoint. This would further add to your report.
I enjoyed reading this. Well done.
