THE SHAKES

Have you ever been in a 6.5 Earthquake before?
If you haven't, then you wouldn't want to be! It's very scary.
I was alone with my sister when it happened.

Before the earthquake struck, I was playing Wii with my sister, Emily, and we were about to play a game on it - not knowing what was going to happen.

30 seconds later, Emily ran out of the room with her hands covering her ears, so I followed her. This was when I began to feel it. It shook and rumbled, so I ran faster. We saw our parents in the lounge, and they were standing by the door for 10 seconds or so, and then I tried to get under a table, but mum said "Get outside", so that's what we all did.
The water in the bird bath was all tipping out of the bowl, so everyone figured that it was quite a decent earthquake.

Finally the shaking stopped, and Granny May came outside.
We were all frightened a lot.
When we all got inside, me and Emily went out again to go on the trampoline.
Emily got bored and went inside, so I did too.
The whole family cuddled up on the couch watching the news and saw how big it was in Wellington!

the quake

       The Quake

The most scariest day of my life was when there was a magnitude 6.5 or 6.8 quake. This is the story of it.

it was dark. I was inside home. I can't remember what I was doing. But then there was a sudden shake... I thought I was going to die.... but I didn't. But I was still scared. That sudden shake and it was over... for us. I was so scared that my mum told me to hop into her bed. There were a lot of quakes going on. We were looking on twitter on this tweeter called “geonet” . the next morning I swore I felt a quake. No one else did though. I still believed I felt one though. It must have been a bad memory. It felt like the earthquake house at te papa in wellington, new zealand which simulates an earthquake. I thought that there was going to be a tsunami or volcanic eruption or something like that. But there wasn’t. There was still big waves though. And there were logs and wood on the beach. We were taking our dog for a walk. We were going back when I stood on a log. A wave came and I got my sneakers, socks and the tip of my shorts soaked.

After the quake my brother talked to a friend on google+ (its basically skype combined with facebook.) My dad went across the road to check if they were alright. I wanted to phone my friend but there was something wrong with the phones. My dad mum and brother told me they were alright. But they weren’t. When he came to my 10th birthday a few days later he said his house was TRASHED.

I hope this gives you information and a story of an experience.

On Sunday the 21st of July at 5.09 a 6.5 earthquake started in Seddon south of Wellington. There were a series of earthquakes from the very beginning of Sunday morning right to the very last light on Sunday afternoon. There were lots of small and high level earthquakes but this was the biggest of them all. It coursed some damage like some shattered windows and some cracks in buildings. Damage occurred in the lower north island and the upper South island. The rest of the country felt it but didn’t find any damage.
It startled lots of people. I was a little sick when the quake hit so I thought it was me but after a bit I knew it was an earthquake. I ran to the door and stayed there until it was over. After the earthquake lots of people where at the shops stocking up on their survival kits in case there was another one as big. Scientists say that it is unlikely that there will be another one as big but there is still a chance.
It was quit frightening but exciting at the same time. It is an experience I won’t forget, not for a while anyway.

Hi my name is Ioana and I am going to tell you about the 6.5 magnitude earthquake that had happened in central wellington at 5:09.

On Sunday the 20th I was at home we had people stay over because it was my dad’s birthday party. We were all relaxing until………….   a 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit central wellington at 5:09.

Everything started to move we all ran outside I felt like I was on a boat the lights started shaking the doors were rattling painting fell over I was really scared the trees were shaking side to side. Then I realized it was an  earthquake that was the first  time I ever experiment an earthquake it was really strong. My 2 cozens were really scared but the good thing it only lasted up to 20 seconds.

Everybody was safe and sound we all got prepared for  another big shake but only one single painting fell down  some were  a bit crocked but no body got hurt which was good I was really frightened by it that another would not happen and the holidays would go back to normal.
Thank you for reading my story on earthquakes if you have experiment a bad earthquake before well I hoped you have enjoyed this story about it.

Quake rattles kapiti coast
Hi I’m Jasmine and I’m going to tell you about the earthquake in New Zealand.
On Sunday at 4:37 there was an earthquake in New Zealand, the earthquake was a 6.5 amazing shocking earthquake. So far there have been 1900 aftershocks.  Did you know that the biggest earthquake in New Zealand is an 8.2 in the wairapa in 1855.

5 minutes before the earthquake jasmine and her friends Kelsey and jassmine and her sisters were at the BMX track for a bike around, when the earthquake struck jassmine was screaming “I can’t get up the hill HELP ME”, “ha ha ha “laughed Jasmine “ but then Jasmine realized it was an earthquake so went over to jassmine with Kelsey to help jassmine , as Jasmine walked over to jassmine she looked around and saw that all the poles were moving and the ground was shacking , jasmine was shocked. So she got jassmine and then her friend Kelsey said “let’s go home” and jasmine said “okay then “.

As the children went home they chattered about the earthquake and imagined things like if the pole was going to fall down. As they talked it started to get dark but they were soon home so that was good and the children had an amazing story to tell to their parents.

Thank you for reading this story and hopefully there will not be a worst earthquake.

The first earthquake I have felt

I was in a town by  Mount Ruapehu   when the earthquake happened.

My brother, mum and dad were in the lounge of the place we were staying. and i was on my bed reading when the earthquake started.

The bed started to move lightly and kept going only for a little bit though.

The earthquake was not that strong by mont rupua but I imagine that it would be a lot stronger closer to the epicentre.

THE EARTHQUAKE

By George Curtis

first the ground was shaking then the dog was barking let me tell you about the earthquake I was in.

At first I was watching TV and then the dog started to bark and then the ground started to shake. Then the TV moved and started to wobble and the it shifted a meter away from where it was.

Then I rushed over to the doorway and shouted earthquake! Then my mum rushed down stairs and told me to get under the table. So I got under and when the earthquake was over we went in to the car and drove to the hills it was an hour drive but it was worth it.

The earthquake was really bad but it was worse in wellington.
THE 6.5  EARTHQUAKE
Hi I’m Liezel and did you feel about the 6.5 earthquake that happen on the kapiti coast?
Well I will tell you what my experience in the 6.5 earthquake.
I was in my house watching TV sitting at the dinner table with my sister Marouska, while my dad was asleep and my mum was at work. Then the glass cabinet starting shaking.
Then the chair I was sitting on started moving then I waited to see what it was and I just knew it was an earthquake I screamed “Earthquake” and then ran really fast and got under the table, my sister got under the table too. And my dad got out of bed and went into the door frame.

Then it just stopped, and only two things fell down and I rang my mum to see if she was ok but all she said was “I didn't feel it because she was in the car”. She only felt a little shake.
 The quake shake
On Sunday 20th of July a 6.8 earthquake hit .I am going to tell you my story and where I was.
5 minutes before the quake I was in the car with my friend and his dad we went in got some food and looked at the magazines there where know new ones when we walked past the wine bottle’s  all of them where shaking ting.
The earthquake hit we left the groceries and ran outside to the car park. Everybody was looking at us thinking what are you doing but we were just getting away from anything falling nothing fell we were lucky.
After that we got our grocers we went home to cheque on our survival kit in case of an aftershock. Then we cheque if our families .         and friends are ok.

Now it was time to relax and hope for no more shakes.
29th July by Sam

Hi i'm Sam and have you ever been in a earthquake with lights shaking above your head? Let me tell you when that happened to me.

One morning when i woke up I felt my bed shaking and so i asked jack if he was shaking my bed but it wasn’t him. Then i asked my Nana what it was and surprisingly it was an earthquake and so i went and asked my grandad if he felt it and he did.

after my mum and dad came to picked me Jacks and jessica up ready to go to the movies/cafe. well we were eating the earthquake came and Dad looked over at the chandelier and said “ I’m lucky i’m not under that chandelier and then he looked up and there was one above him.” we all had to go outside for a moment.

At the end of the earthquake we went back inside and ate the rest of the food then we went home. Then my Dad quickly ran in to my mums work to see if anything fell down and one product fell down. when we went home nothing had fell down luckily.

it was fun because they were my first earthquakes i have been in but in the i hope i don't die  in one.

The big shake

"i was very scared but after a while it had finally stopped!".

When we all got up my mum and dad asked us if we were all right. it really did fell like it had gone for ages!! but it had really only gone for 20 or 25 seconds.i looked around the house there were books everywhere and in the kitchen there was a while pile of water on the floor that had come out of the sink. i then went downstairs "and that was where my mum and i got out our survival so that we would ready a prepared!!!!

"it was a cool experience but i really do not hope it happens again!"

The Big Shake

[Hello my name is Jemma and I am going to tell you about my experience of The Big Shake.]

[I was at my friends house with my friends Maddie and Chloe and we were just hitting  the ballons up of the ground, and my friend Chloe was just leaning on the door, and it started to shake so she let go of the door and and it started to shake even harder.]

[So then we all shouted out EARTHQUAKE! Chloe's mum said "ok everyone under the table". So we all rushed under the table and I was so scared that I had to hold on to my friends. We started to see all the things moving around.I was really freaky for my friends and me]

[After it was done we were really surprised I was breathing in and out so I could calm down all of a sodden my friends Chloe's sisters friend came to ask if everyone was ok we all said yes she was there because Chloe's sister and her friend were going to have a sleep over we were all shocked for the night.]

The Wellington region Earthquake news report.

A 4.5 magnitude earthquake started in Seddon ,Wellington and carried on to Kapati,Waikanae.

The quake accrued at 4:45 and shook all in the Wellington region. The earth quake did not do much harm in Kapati but made a mess in Wellington. As it seems it was the leader of many after shocks.

Many people rushed into stores buying fresh water, caned food and medical kits getting ready for the next big shake. "I thought it was really freaky because i have never  felt an earthquake that big before" Said Jemma Wood aged 9. "It felt like my house was blowing away!" said Dylan Bell aged 9.

Due to the big shake scientist believe we are in for a big one.

Thank you I am Madeline and that's 6's news.

Library visit

Library visit
It was Monday the 1st of July and that was when Rm 11 and Rm 18 where going to the public library.
When I got to school I put away my bag and that was when Mr. Corlett told me that we were going to the library. I did not even know about this but I was very excited I don’t usually go to public libraries so this was going to be really fun. When the bell rang we all sat down at our desks and waited to be told what time we would be leaving for the library and just when I was about to ask what time it was Mrs. lake and her class walked in and sat on the mat and Mrs. lake told us all to go and line up outside and wait. When we were walking to the library we had to wait a while until we could cross the road and when we did we ran for it because when only half of the line had crossed the road the red light for pedestrians’ to stop had gone on and that was not good but thank goodness the cars had stopped for us.

When we had finally arrived at the library we stopped and listened to her tell us that we needed to be quiet and listen to the lady that was going to talk to us. So when Mrs. Lake was finished talking to us she said to quietly follow her inside so we did. And when we got inside we all sat down and waited for everyone else to sit down. When we were all sitting down we listened to the lady that was talking and she read us a book that I think that she made herself. When she had finished reading her book she told us that we would be decorating feathers to go onto this big cloak that thy were making for every school I think?

When we were all into making them it was really fun my feather was a white one and my goal on the back was that I wished my house would a bathroom  so ioana and I ran away screaming have finished being built by next year on my birthday!. After I had made my one I went to the toilet and there was a huge queue so Ioana and I had to wait but when we had finally got there we saw that the boys and the girls had to share a bathroom so Ioana and I ran away creaming yuck that is disgusting so we went back into the room where everyone was still doing there feather art. when they had all finally all finished we said goodbye and left and that is the end of my story.

Te Papa trip

Te Papa trip

On Tuesday the 2nd of July in room 11 of Waikanae School We all got to school really early. And then Mr. Corlett called the roll and then we lined up to catch the bus. We were on the bus and it took 1 HOUR!!! To get there but it felt like 20 minutes and then we got off the bus and ate our morning tea at the main entrance. And then we put our bags in these cages at the entrance.

Mountains to sea
First we went into Mountains to sea. I ran into the BIG TREE and hid from Anton’s dad and then I went to see the colossal squid. It is massive!!! And then we saw the 3-D movie of the colossal squid .And then we went to see the bird’s native to New-Zealand and then I looked up to see the pygmy Blue Whale.

Awesome Forces
I ran into Awesome Forces I looked in the telescope you could see through it exactly the same as normal that was alright. Then I jumped onto the Richter scale jump I got 4/5 was my highest that day. Then I went into the earthquake house it was alright it was moving really weirdly. And I saw what New Zealand will look like in 6 million years that was cool it had something to do with the tectonic plates. And I also saw some dinosaur skeletons.

Blood, earth and fire

Then we went into Blood earth and fire. I saw these cool animals and some of them were native to New Zealand. Then we saw the big sheep and then we saw this cool moa we could hear what sound it made. Then we saw this thing that we could see what types of moons there were we could see what a new moon looked like it looked really cool. Then we went into what looked normal but it had booby traps my friend screamed will she looked at the suitcase with a spider in it.

Lunch time

At lunch time we ate our lunch outside the cave when we were finished eating me and Anton ran into the cave we were really loud to the light up bugs then we dug up the mosasaurs dinosaur and then we took some photos on this rock it was a hollow rock. and then it was time to go to the Matariki session it looked so 3-D it was really cool then we all went into the this room with these constellations me Marcus, Vincent, Anton. made the Maori fish hook and then we went into the star lab me and Anton and Vlad were having a play fight and it was pitch black so you could not anything at all and there were some cool constellations and then when we came out we could see the light.

Thank you for reading my recount on going to Te Papa I hope you liked it, was really cool.

2nd July
  Te Papa

On Tuesday the 2nd of July are class and room 18’s class went to Te Papa. We traveled by bus and Sam Adam and
Charlie did logic puzzle’s. I was really good at the logic puzzle’s that they called me the ninja.

When we got there we had morning tea until it was time to go in. When we went in we had to put our bag’s in a cage then we played with the water fountain with the ball in it. We all had a race to get to the second story and you got to pick if you went up the stairs, elevator or the escalator. Dylan won going up the stairs.

First are group went to bush city to dig up the dinosaur but we had to get past the.... wobbly bridge it was easy so we went to the dig up the dinosaur but we couldn't stay there for long. Then we went to the glow worm cave and after we went to the rocks but these rocks weren't just ordinary rocks they were all sort’s of rock’s like we saw a marble rock.

Then it was time to go to do the Matariki stuff that we were going to do. First we got told a story about the sun then we talked about role models and we looked at the Mario leader’s. Then we went into a class sort of thing and looked at constellation's in the starlab. After we went to get are bag’s to have lunch. After lunch we went back to bush city to finish off the dinosaur, five minutes later we realized that we had lost peter at the bathroom. We went back to find him and the it was time to leave. On the way back we finished off the logic puzzles that we hadn’t done.

A Fun Trip to Te Papa

A Fun Trip to Te Papa
By Kenza Si-Lounis

It was Tuesday the 2nd of July and that was when Rm 11 went with Rm 18 and part of Rm 10 children. When the bell rang Mr Corlett did the roll and then brought us down to where we would get onto the bus. When Mr C told us what group we were in. our group was jasmine, jemma, matarina, Ethan and I and of course my mum was our leader. After that we got onto the bus and I sat with my mum. Then the bus started and off we went.
When we had finally arrived at Te Papa museum we got out of the bus and I walked with my mum and my group but jasmine would not come so my mum went to jasmine and held her hand. She then said “jasmine this is what I have to do to my five year old if she doesn’t behave herself” and then jasmine said “Mr c can I please change groups but Mr C said “no I have got you with just the right parent. Then after that my mum let go of jasmines hand and we went and sat down and ate our morning tea with everyone else.
When we had finished eating my group went inside and put our bags in a big box-cage and then went the awesome forces. The awesome forces were really fun because there was an earthquake house. In the earthquake house it was like there was an earthquake but not a very big one it was just the house going side to side. Then we went and jumped on a Richter scale which measured how big of earthquake you had caused when you jumped. We also got to pick up these rocks that where really big I could only pick up two of them but I could not pick up the iron one it took our whole group to pick that up. Then the last thing that we did in the awesome forces was looking about tectonic plates.
After that we went to see the mountains to the sea and there we saw this fake pig and whenever you went near it, it would make this really scary snorting noise, and that made jemma and matarina scream when they saw it. After that we looked at the giant squid and then I made my own squid on this touch screen computer and sent it to my home computer. We also watched a 3-d movie and it was really funny when jemma went up really close to it and was like this awww look at the cute little jelly fish and then out of nowhere came this really scary fish and swam right at her and she screamed.
After we had done that we went up a staircase to the next floor and there we went to this place called the children’s adventure thing a ma bob and there we played with a giant baby and then we dressed up and did puppet shows and I played on a computer and I also played with a ball machine. We also pretended that we worked in a shop and we were selling things to other people.
After we had done all of that we went with Mr Corlett well my mum was getting herself a coffee. When were with Mr C we went and looked at old fashioned things that the Māori used to use. We also looked at this flag [the flag was the size of those huge flags attached to those huge poles] that you could play with and when you pulled it half way it would make that noise that it did in the old days when someone important died. We also watched a movie with Māori people in it. Then we went and looked at famous peoples pass ports for the old days.
Then after we had done that my mum came back and we went and looked at these Māori houses called the marae and we took off our shoes and went inside of them and jasmine took photos when she was not supposed to but of course she did not get into trouble at some stage my mum said that we better go down and eat our lunch.
When we got down the stairs we went outside we went to the dinosaur pit and ate our lunch and then my mum said that she was going to go and by herself some lunch so she went and that left me feeding all the pigeons it was really fun until Mr C told me not to feed them anymore and so I waited for my mum and then I remembered that I had forgotten my water. So when my mum got back she gave me some of her chocolate cake I said thank you and then I told her that I had forgotten my water and so she said okay then I will go and buy you some water so she took me to the little café and she bought me a Fanta to drink. Then when we got back everyone was so jealous. When we had finished our food we went and looked in this cave and then went back inside the museum.

When we got back inside we went up three huge stair cases and then there we walked up to this place where a lady talked about Matariki and it was sought of boring and we had to come up with a song to sing but of course I could not come up with a song so I did not bother to do it. And it got even worse because Mr C asked me who he thought was a role model and of course I was day dreaming so I had no idea what he said and why he was asking and I muttered you in a quiet voice and then when we had finished the lady took us to another place. When we got there we were told to sit down and listen so we did and we were put into small groups to do a small science project the science project was to have a magnet stuck to a little white board and with the magnet you had to put an l.e.d light on it and the a battery on top of it and try to make the light work. Once my group and everyone else had done that we were told to take our shoes off when we had done that we were taken into this big tent witch was all dark until the lady turned on her torch and we sat around the edge of the big tent. She then turned the light off and put on this big thing witch showed us all of the stars and showed us some constellation’s to. When she had shown us all of that we went all the way down all the stairs and we ran to the bus so that we could get the best seats and guess what my mum and I got the exact same seat as last time. When we were all comfortable we were ready to go back to school and that was not fun especially when you are stuck in a bus full of kids singing twinkle twinkle and who know what else!

Room 11 and Room 18 go to the public library
On Monday 1st of July room 11 and room 18 went to the public library to see a speaker called Fire queen. I walked to the public library with kenza. Me and kenza laughed lots on the way to the library.

When we got to the library fire queen said hello to us in Mario. Then fire queen read us a story about a young lady who went to catch eels with her friends the lady was having so much fun that she did not notice that her friends were gone then a big ugly beast grab her and kept her as his wife because she was so beautiful. Every day when the young lady went out to grab some food she added some wood to her raft so she could escape the ugly beast. When her raft was ready she escaped down the river, when the beast woke up and found out that she escaped the beast thought he was so big that he could drink all of the river so his wife could not make it back home. When the young lady made it home she told everyone about what has happened. So all of her family went out in the day to kill the beast. They killed the beast by lighting a fire in his cave so he couldn’t get out. Once the beast was killed all the village lived happily ever after.

After the story we had to colour in a feather that was made out of materiel and at the back we had to write a goal. My feather was white and had spirals all over my feather. It was really cool. Iona father was colourful, it was striped with heaps of colours, I really enjoyed the library.
